At Clover Kids Dentistry, we know that kids want a sweet treat every once in a while. And no matter how much you ask, you can’t guarantee they’ll brush properly at least twice a day, every day.
High sugar intake and incorrect or infrequent brushing can lead to cavities. Fluoride treatments strengthen your child’s teeth and prevent cavities.
What is Fluoride?
Fluoride is a natural mineral that can protect teeth even when the enamel surface has been damaged by decay. Fluoride has long been an important tool in the dentist’s battle against decay, as it restores calcium levels in decaying teeth, and slows the production of corrosive acids that damage teeth.
Is fluoride treatment suitable for kids?
Absolutely. It’s a quick and totally painless non-invasive treatment that will better protect your child’s teeth. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends fluoride varnish treatment every six months as a part of every child’s dental wellness.
What happens during fluoride treatment?
Dr. Betty will apply highly concentrated fluoride in varnish form. This only takes a few seconds to apply and it comes in a variety of kid-friendly flavors like caramel, berry, bubble gum and orange dream. To ensure the full effectiveness of the treatment, your child may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for at least half an hour or 30 minutes after application.
What are the benefits of fluoride?
- Restores tooth surfaces damaged by bacteria
- Stops decay penetrating deeper into the tooth
